“2007 W$1 Silver Eagle, PF-70″ coin?

Question by sorry20070517: “2007 W Silver Eagle, PF-70″ coin?
Someone is offering to sell me a “2007 W$ 1 Silver Eagle,” PF-70, “Early Release” for $ 68. Is this a fair price? If not, what would be a fair price for this coin?
Thanks.

Not a very good price. You can get them for about $ 15.

If the Silver Eagle is encased in a clear plastic holder from any of the top-tier professional grading services(like PCGS, NGC, ANACS or ICG), then I’d say that it’s a good buy. Else if it’s a PF-70 from other grading services then I might not agree with the grading standards. For a coin to be graded a 70, it has to be perfect, without even the tiniest spot or blemish. I have seen many coins graded MS-70 or PF-70 by bottom-tier grading services which I think is at best an MS or PF 69. All Silver Eagle Proofs graded PF-70 by reputable services are valued high, with a PCGS PF-70 at least $ 450 in the hobby market, and the difference between a PCGS PF 69 and 70 is more than $ 350.
